Compensation of independent contractors is tax deductible. Check our hire employees section for more information about who are independent contractors. Typically, individuals and businesses that are provided with 1099-NEC forms count as payments to contractors. Don’t deduct them under professional fees

Professional Fees

Non-recurring fees paid to professionals such as photographers, event managers, consultants can be deducted as professional fees. Payments to lawyers as well as court expenses can be deducted as legal fees instead.
